Labor’s answer to red tape – hire another bureaucrat

THE tired 20-year Labor government’s answer to red tape that ‘s choking Queensland business – is to employ one more bureaucrat, the LNP said today.

LNP Shadow Minister for Tourism, Manufacturing and Small Business Jann Stuckey said the appointment of a single bureaucrat on election eve was pure tokenism from a long-term government out of ideas and lacking any commitment to supporting business.

"Bligh Labor and Small Business Minister Jan Jarratt are clueless," Ms Stuckey said.

"They’ve got no answer to the growth in red tape, fees and charges, and overall compliance costs for hardworking businesses.

"Now, just before an election they’re announcing a single bureaucrat will be hired to wind back red tape that’s been strangling progress in this state."

Ms Stuckey said only the LNP can deliver change.

SAYONARA, Premier. Anna Bligh's claims her bungled clean-coal dream would live on have collapsed, with the company at the centre put into liquidation at a loss to taxpayers of almost $160 million.

The Courier-Mail can reveal the controversial ZeroGen operation was shut down a fortnight ago, despite the Premier promising the ailing firm would be given to - and run by - the coal industry to ensure its work did not go to waste.

Documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission this month show the company is under external administration after a liquidator was appointed on October 11.

ZeroGen was set up to be owned by the Government to develop carbon capture technology. Its key project was to be a $4.3 billion clean coal power plant in central Queensland, running by 2015, with the power to capture 90 per cent of coal emissions.

The confirmation of the financial losses come as photos have emerged showing former ZeroGen chiefs living it up in Japan and Singapore as they tried to secure backing of business giant Mitsubishi Corp.

Labor tries to hide figures on yet another ICT bungle

STATE Labor has again been caught out hiding details on another ICT bungle, the LNP said today.

LNP Shadow Minister for Government Services, Building Industry and Information and Communication Technology Ros Bates accused Minister Simon Finn of trying to hide the cost of the implementation of the PWC Shared Services Review recommendations.

Tabling a leaked email on issue, Ms Bates said Labor had had two long decades to get on top of Information and Communication Technology.

“The Queensland taxpayer gets hit with yet another bill to fix up yet another Bligh Government ICT stuff-up. It will cost $19.9 million over three years to implement the PricewaterhouseCoopers review recommendation, with ongoing annual costs of $4.8 million.

Hervey Bay residents urged to “Blow the Whistle” on Government Waste and Red Tape

HERVEY BAY residents are paying the cost of State Government mismanagement with long waiting lists for cataract surgery and other health services, community leaders heard today at an LNP Waste Watch forum.

The LNP Waste Watch Shadow Minister Fiona Simpson and LNP Member for Hervey Bay Ted Sorensen met with residents and business owners who shared their concerns at a round table discussion today.

Mr Sorensen said the $223 million cost blow out on the health payroll system was an outrageous waste of taxpayers' money which could have funded 4,725 nurses.  "That money could have shortened the waiting list for Hervey Bay residents and got them off the endless waiting lists for basic services," Mr Sorensen said.

Ms Simpson said the $1.1 billion wasted on Traveston Crossing Dam and a pipeline to connect it was money that should have been focused on cutting the cost of living for Queenslanders and improving local services.

One local example of waste where a staircase had been built over a fallen tree on Fraser Island, rather than the dead tree being removed, also showed just how ridiculous the extend of Government  mismanagement had become, they said.

Mr Sorensen said, "It's time for common sense and proper management."

Ms Simpson said: “Under the watch of Australia’s worst treasurer Andrew Fraser, this lazy, tired 20 year old Labor Government has not only racked up an $85 billion debt with an interest bill of $595,000 an hour, but has also lost Queensland’s AAA credit rating.”

Your taxpayer dollars at work – a ridiculous example of waste on Fraser Island where the State Government has built steps over the top of a fallen tree on a bush track near Lake Allom.
