THE Bligh government has been caught out in yet another embarrassing IT gaffe – this time involving the Queensland Treasury Corporation which has blown another $15 million of taxpayers’ money on dumped finance platforms. LNP Shadow Minister for Information and Communication Technology Ros Bates said the revelation QTC axed IT company Temenos’ $7.5 million contract and dumped a similar amount on internal work that won’t continue, proved Labor’s IT disasters were not just confined to the Health department. “This latest costly IT gaffe comes on top of the recent revelation Labor has wasted $46 million on its inter-departmental email system costing $23,000 per user, as well as the problem-plagued OneSchool roll-out and the long running health payroll debacle costing more than $220 million to fix. “Once again we are seeing evidence that major IT projects have cost Queensland taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars more than they should have because of the incompetence of this tired, 20 year old Labor Government. “Labor just can’t get IT basics right and Queensland taxpayers are paying the price,” said Ms Bates. Ms Bates said QTC’s 2008/09 Annual Report stated the Temenos banking system was acquired in April 2009, and was scheduled for implementation by July 2010 with the 2009/10 annual report stating the new system was now scheduled to be launched in 2011. “Backtrack 12 months and the QTC 2010/11 annual report makes no mention of Temenos. Not a word. It’s been dumped and along with it, roundly $15 million of taxpayers’ money,” Ms Bates said. “QTC instead is allegedly now going to develop its own system – a move the Queensland government’s Chief Information Office policy platform states (an internal build) would only be used as a last resort.” Ms Bates said what’s worse, Australia’s worst Treasurer Andrew Fraser attempted to justify the Bligh government’s $15 million waste as an attempt ‘to ensure a value-for-money outcome’. “The erratic Bligh government continues to waste millions of hard working Queenslanders’ taxpayer dollars,” said Ms Bates. “I call on the IT Minister Simon Finn to come clean and explain this latest IT scandal. “It’s time for change. It’s time to get Queensland back on track,” said Ms Bates |
